Together, let's change the situation

Published on 10/04/2025

Another biker won't make it home. Together, let's change the situation.

Last weekend, the biker community lost one of its own. A young, passionate biker was killed in a road accident. Our thoughts today are with her family, her loved ones, and all those who, like her, take to the road with passion, vigilance, but also vulnerability.

Every biker who does not return home is one tragedy too many. And it is a wake-up call that we can no longer ignore.

The ACL, as an actor in road safety and defender of two-wheeled users, would like to reiterate its solidarity with the entire biker community. Together, we must demand profound change:

– Infrastructure designed for all users, not just cars: suitable surfaces, clear signage, safe facilities.

– A true culture of sharing the road, which requires education, mutual respect and an awareness of the vulnerability of motorcyclists.

– High-quality training that is accessible, valued and whose lessons must be put into practice by everyone, every day.

The safety of motorcyclists is not an option, it is a priority

We will continue to fight so that no one else loses their life simply by going to work, going for a ride or living their passion.

As a reminder, in 2023, according to the latest figures published in the annual report of the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, five motorcyclists lost their lives and 94 were injured in accidents on Luxembourg’s roads. They accounted for almost 20% of the total number of deaths (26) in the Grand Duchy that same year. A figure that is still too high! Road safety is not an option, it is a priority. The ACL will continue to advocate that no one should lose their life simply by going to work, going for a ride or living their passion.

The ACL emphasises the regular organisation of training courses for motorcyclists to learn best practices after the winter period, as well as workshops to bring together different road users in order to establish a dialogue and find solutions for better understanding between the many different types of users.

The ACL is working, in line with the FIA strategy, in favour of ‘Vision Zero’. Vision Zero is a transformative approach to making roads safe. Vision Zero refuses to accept deaths and serious injuries as inevitable consequences of mobility on the roads. The approach aims to create a global road traffic system free of deaths or serious injuries.

Thus, the ACL wants better awareness of road safety, more resources from the public authorities, but also an increase in controls by the forces of order such as the next ‘Speedmarathon’ which will take place from 9 April 2025.

Finally, we would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the family of the missing motorcyclist. To all motorcyclists, we say: take care of yourselves. Get training. Equip yourselves. Stay alert. And let’s continue, together, to demand safer roads for everyone.
